Centennial Extends Official License, Logo and Listing to Sanctioned Events
- Businesses, Community Groups Invited to Catch Centennial Spirit -

LAS VEGAS - The yearlong party that will commemorate Las Vegas' 100th birthday throughout 2005 is well underway, and the Centennial Committee today urged community groups and businesses to join the celebration by offering official sanctioning to independent special events, publications, projects and programs that embrace the spirit of the Las Vegas Centennial. With approval of a license application, the Centennial Committee will list the business, project or event on its Master Calendar and official Web site and sanction the use of the official Centennial logo on related non-commercial materials. Applications and guidelines are available online at www.lasvegas2005.org.

A number of organizations have already been sanctioned as "official" Centennial events, including the 10th Annual Susan G. Komen Las Vegas Race for the Cure, Hitter's Challenge Hall of Fame Tour and the Las Vegas International Marathon.

"We're very excited to be at the forefront of an effort that reflects the true spirit of Las Vegas," said Laura Ward, co-chair of the Race for the Cure. "What better way to celebrate the 100th anniversary than to have 15,000 local residents downtown? We're a big part of Las Vegas, so the Centennial is just another way for us to get the word out about breast cancer and how we can help find a cure."

According to Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, "being an 'official' Centennial-sanctioned event will be a real plus in dealing with your consumers and audiences. But apart from generating goodwill, it's a rare opportunity to be part of a larger community effort. By weaving the theme of the Centennial through existing and prospective programs and events, you'll demonstrate the pride we all feel in this truly one-of-a-kind community," Goodman said.

Official Centennial sanctioning creates opportunities to involve ethnic, faith-based, educational and civic organization and individuals in a community-wide effort to celebrate and commemorate the history and culture of Las Vegas.

The Las Vegas Centennial is a yearlong celebration paying tribute to the exciting people, places and events that helped shape Las Vegas history since 110 acres was purchased near the first railroad in a land auction nearly a century ago.
