LAWRY'S THE PRIME RIB PRESENTS HISTORICAL LAS VEGAS PHOTO EXHIBITION
Las Vegas, Nev., June 10, 2005 - This summer Las Vegas residents and tourists alike will find a distinctive touch of nostalgia, glamour and "Old Vegas" in a limited-time historical photo exhibit at Lawry's The Prime Rib Restaurant. Images document the development of the small desert railroad town into the famous Glitter Gulch, with the area's unique journey of expansion shaped by sequined chorus girls, sophisticated lounge singers, and high-wattage neon signs lighting the way.
Among those featured in famous glamour puss shots are blond beauties Jayne Mansfield and the Gabor sisters, the mysterious Marlene Dietrich, and Jane Russell whose timeless appeal as the ultimate pin-up has fascinated generations. The male dynamos who shaped Las Vegas's colorful past aren't neglected-Sammy Davis, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Bob Hope and Wilbur Clark are all seen at their casual best. Prior to the construction of now long-gone landmarks such as the Dunes, the streets were populated by Model T cars and, as the photos attest, rambled shacks were used as homes for often-transitory railroad workers. "These shots document the roots of our town," explains Lawry's Marketing Director Nancy Marcellus. "In many ways they are the only remaining memories of what Las Vegas was like.
"We hope that all who are fascinated by Las Vegas through the ages and enamored with an extraordinary meal will make plans to come to Lawry's during June, July and August," she says. "The historic photo display of Las Vegas' stars and The Strip are unparalleled. We are enormously grateful to the Las Vegas New Bureau and Karen Siveroli for this marvelous glimpse into our history."
Photos are on display in the lobby and lounge of the restaurant for casual viewing during cocktails or a leisurely appreciation following dinner. Lawry's opens at 4:30 p.m. for cocktails and 5 p.m. for dinner. Reservations may be made by calling (702) 893-2223.
