Newest Mural Pays Tribute to 100 Years in Neon

What: Mayor Oscar Goodman, Chairman of the Centennial Committee, and Rossi Ralenkotter, President/CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, will unveil "Chase," a mural that pays tribute to the destination's historic association with the neon sign.

Sponsored by the LVCVA, the Cashman Center mural was created by local artist Jerry Misko. Titled "Chase," the acrylic mural is approximately 80 feet long by 7 feet high and sweeps across the curving retaining wall at the south end of the facility. Inspired by the neon signs stored in the adjacent Neon Museum Boneyard, the abstract image was done in lush hues of gold and brown and calls to mind the flashing, "chasing" lights of a neon sign.

Misko, co-owner of Dust Gallery in the Arts District, has focused on neon signs for the last five years. His work appears in numerous private collections and can be seen locally at Saks Fifth Avenue at Fashion Show, Golden Nugget and Le Cirque, among other locations.

When: Monday, Aug. 8, 1:30 pm

Who: Mayor Oscar Goodman, City of Las Vegas
Rossi Ralenkotter, President/CEO, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority

Where: Cashman Center
850 Las Vegas Blvd. North

(Note: Mural is located on the southwest side of the building)

The mural, a project of the City of 100 Murals, is one of approximately 180 murals being produced during the Centennial Year. Over 100 murals are being created in the schools and 80 murals at private and public sites throughout the valley. As one of the largest public art initiatives ever undertaken in Las Vegas, the project will leave a legacy for many years to come.
