Deadline to Apply for Las Vegas Centennial Grants, May 15
Time is running out for local community and governmental organizations to claim their share of thousands of dollars to host their own Las Vegas Centennial celebration event as the city commemorates its 100th birthday next year. The deadline to apply for the grants is May 15.
The Las Vegas Centennial grant program, with educational and event grants ranging from $500 to $10,000, will provide funding for non-profit civic, charitable, education, ethnic and faith-based organizations to join in Las Vegas' yearlong birthday bash with their own program in 2005. Organizations without non-profit standing can apply for the grants by partnering with a non-profit organization.
The Las Vegas Centennial will run throughout 2005, with an official observance on the city's 100th birthday, May 15, 2005. Organizations that host their own events or programs will join hundreds of other events scheduled throughout the Centennial year, including the rebirth of Las Vegas' historical Helldorado Days rodeo, the creation of the Las Vegas Walk of Fame and a Centennial Time Capsule.
Centennial events funded through the grant program should reflect the diversity and culture of Las Vegas and foster community pride while showcasing the rich history that makes Las Vegas unique. Events must take place within the Centennial year, between Jan. 1, 2005 and Dec. 20, 2005.
Copper grants, ranging from $500 to $1,000, will be awarded for projects defined as small community events that focus on neighborhood and community celebrations and participation. Silver grants, ranging from $1,000 to $10,000, will be awarded for projects defined as medium to large community events that will attract 5,000 attendees or more and are co-sponsored by the Las Vegas Centennial celebration.
Organizations must complete an application describing the event or project and the specific use of the grant funds. The grant application is available on the Las Vegas Centennial celebration Web site, www.lasvegas2005.org, and at the Centennial office, 400 Stewart Ave., 2nd Floor. For additional information, call (702) 229-2005.
