Happy Birthday, Las Vegas! Sunday, May 15, events

Construction of World's Largest Birthday Cake (MEDIA ONLY)
What: Sara Lee Foods pastry chefs and hundreds of volunteers will spend the entire night constructing Las Vegas' 130,000-pound birthday cake.
When: 3 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: Cashman Center, Hall A, 850 Las Vegas Boulevard North, near Washington Avenue

The cake's construction will be broadcast live via the Internet starting Saturday, May 14 at midnight. The Centennial Celebration has joined with Stevens Media Group and Creative WebCam Live! to present the live webcast. To watch Centennial volunteers build the cake, just link to HTTP://PREMIERE.lasvegasnevada.gov:443/LasVegas100

Note: Television trucks only should park along the walls of the theater alley, the enclosed area between Lot B and Lot C. All other media should park in Lot C, the VIP Parking lot. Media must be wearing media credentials or be pre-registered to park in media parking.

Media credentialing for all cake events will be held in the Meeting Rooms entrance of Exhibit Hall A, from 3 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Television stations seeking live coverage of the birthday cake in Hall A must be wireless, as there is no cable access in Hall A.

Recreation of the Land Auction
What: Mayor Oscar Goodman, other members of the Centennial Committee and professional actors will recreate the 1905 land auction that started Las Vegas.
When: 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Where: Fremont Street Experience, near Golden Gate Hotel & Casino, One Fremont Street

First Historical Marker unveiled
What: The first in a series of markers identifying historic sites significant in shaping the Las Vegas community will be unveiled.
When: 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Where: In front of The Plaza Hotel & Casino, One Main Street

Note: Media check-in will be held in front of the Golden Gate Hotel & Casino, One Fremont Street

World's Largest Birthday Cake cutting ceremony and public viewing
What: Cake opens to the public for viewing. A special cake cutting ceremony led by Mayor Oscar Goodman and Sara Lee Foods officials will follow.
When: Media Photo Opportunity in which local celebrities including, The Scintas, Amazing Jonathan and cast members from La Femme will gather in front of the cake, 1:30 to 2:30
Public cake viewing, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Cake cutting ceremony and eating of the cake, 5:15 p.m.
Where: Cashman Center, Hall A, 850 Las Vegas Boulevard, North, Near Washington Avenue.

Note: Mayor Goodman and Sara Lee Foods officials will be available for media interviews in front of the cake from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Contact Lori Nelson in advance at 702.349.0625 to schedule an interview time.

It is recommended that photographers bring a wide angle lens to capture the cake cutting ceremony, as media will be positioned on a platform away from the cake. Photographers will have complete access at all other times. Television stations looking for live coverage of the birthday cake in Hall A must be wireless, as there is no cable access in the hall.

Birthday Celebration Tickets Available
What: The Centennial will release 1,000 additional tickets to the evening birthday celebration the day of the event. Tickets will be available at a booth during the viewing of the World's Largest Birthday Cake.
When: 2 p.m. until the tickets are gone
Where: Cashman Center, Hall A, 850 Las Vegas Boulevard, North, near Washington Avenue.

Free Concert & Fireworks Display What: Las Vegas will party with a drop-in by the Flying Elvi, a free concert by Boogie Nights and Kool & The Gang and a fireworks extravaganza.
When: Doors open, 5 p.m.
Boogie Nights, 6:30 p.m.
Flying Elvi, 8:05 p.m.
Kool & The Gang, 8:30 p.m.
Fireworks Extravaganza, 10 p.m.
Where: Cashman Field, 850 Las Vegas Boulevard, North near Washington Avenue

Note: Television trucks only should pull into the theater alley, the space between Parking lot B and Parking Lot C. All other media should park in Lot C, which will serve as VIP Parking lot. Media must be wearing their media credentials or be pre-registered to park in media parking.

Media entrance and check-in for the Cashman Field events will be held through the double doors near the security office located between Lot B and Lot C, just left of the ticket office.

Media will not be permitted on the field to cover the events and will be relegated to specific media areas near the front of the stands. Television media will be able to capture live coverage of the Cashman Field events through a patch panel power source, which captures audio and visual signals.

Flying Elvi will be brought to the media area for interviews following their "drop-in."
