The Las Vegas Centennial Ushers in a Fall Season Full of Exciting Events
LAS VEGAS, Sept. 1, 2005 -- The Las Vegas Centennial fall festivities offer a bounty of historical and cultural events for all ages. From an Asian Pacific festival to an Italian feast featuring song and dance, Las Vegas pays homage to its cultural diversity. Several photo exhibits highlight nostalgic Las Vegas, and the nationwide premiere of a PBS documentary shines the spotlight on our city's colorful history.
The following are events planned for September:
Sept. 1 - Sept. 15 100 YEARS OF WATER
This multi-media exhibit shows the history of our Las Vegas valley water resources over the past century.

Sept. 1 - Sept. 30 THE LAS VEGAS I REMEMBER-KNPR 88.9
A radio history of Las Vegas as told by those who lived it and broadcast each Monday at 10:50 a.m. At the conclusion of the series, CDs will be distributed to selected area schools and libraries. Check the KNPR Web site for topics, http://www.knpr.org
Sept. 1 - Oct. 7 CAUGHT ON FILM
"Caught on Film" is an exhibit of more than 50 oversized historical photos of events that shaped the face of Las Vegas. You'll see old Vegas nostalgia, glamour and drama in a limited-time exhibit documenting the development our small desert railroad town into Glitter Gulch, and beyond. Admission is free. Hours are 1st Friday, 6-10PM, Fridays, 4 p.m. - 8 p.m.; Saturdays and Sundays, Noon - 4 p.m.

Sept. 1 - Oct. 30 CELEBRATING THE POST MODERN
Take a tour of Downtown's most historic building, the former post office, now open to the public every second Saturday of the month through October. Visit the second floor exhibit, "Vegas Viewed in Post Cards" or take a docent tour to learn about the building's past and future.

Sept. 1 - Nov. 30 SOLDIERS OF THE OLD FORT
Historical reenactments at the Old Mormon Fort. Free to the public.

Sept. 1 - Dec. 31 100 YEARS OF LAS VEGAS IMAGES
An exhibit of historic photo images from the past 100 years on display daily from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Sept. 1 - Indefinite CENTENNIAL QUILT
This queen-size tribute to the history of Las Vegas will be on display at the Clark County Government Center Rotunda in September, at the Grant Sawyer Building in October, at City Hall in November, and will have a permanent home at the Clark County Museum starting in December.

Sept. 3 - 4 ASIAN PACIFIC FESTIVAL AND TRADE SHOW
The Asian Pacific Festival and Trade Show serve the growing community of Asians and Pacific Islanders in Las Vegas and the entire southwest USA. It provides attendees a taste of Asia Pacific culture through exhibitors, food, and ongoing Asian-themed entertainment.

Sept. 13 - 18 26TH ANNUAL SAN GENNARO FEAST
Italian food festival featuring 200 vendors, arts and crafts, a huge carnival and live music. More than 300 local children will sing and dance on stage.

Sept. 15- Nov. 6 100 YEARS OF INFLUENCE: The Role of Women in Shaping the First Hundred Year of Las Vegas
THE WALL of Women consists of 256 pictures and brief biographies of women who made a difference and is displayed on the south wall of the Atrium. The Women of Diversity architectural ceramic Triad Tower stands north of THE WALL.

Sept. 16 24 HOUR SHOW: MAKING A LIVING IN LAS VEGAS
The 24-Hour Show is a comprehensive exhibit of Las Vegas casino "work culture" based on interviews with a diverse cadre of casino workers who have made Las Vegas home.

Sept. 17 SIGNATURE CHEFS AUCTION OF LAS VEGAS
This fundraiser hosted by the March of Dimes is a combination of the world's finest cuisine, the elegance of select wines, and the fun of exciting performers & entertainment. Proceeds fund research & development for birth defects & infant health problems. A cocktail reception and silent auction followed by chefs presenting their signature dishes.

Sept. 20 INSIGNIA FILMS/AMERICAN EXPERIENCE PREMIERE
The PBS documentary on Las Vegas history is complete and a premiere will be held at Artemus Ham Hall. National broadcast on PBS-TV Channel 10 will be on Nov. 14 -15.
