Las Vegas Centennial Theme Commemorated
Throughout Holiday Festivities
LAS VEGAS, Dec. 1, 2005 December is a magical time of holiday festivities, reminiscing about the past year and anticipating the New Year. Residents continue to celebrate the Centennial with holiday festivities that make special note of Las Vegasą 100th birthday.
The following Centennial - themed events are planned for December:
Dec. 1 - CENTENNIAL TREE DEDICATION
Las Vegas Mayor Oscar B. Goodman will officially dedicate the Centennial Tree during a special visit to Opportunity Village's 14th Annual Magical Forest.

Dec. 1 - Dec. 18 100 YEARS OF INFLUENCE: The Role of Women in Shaping the First Hundred Years of Las Vegas
THE WALL of Women consists of 256 pictures and brief biographies of women who made a difference. Selected components will be will be on display free to the public at the West Charleston Library during normal library hours.

Dec. 1 - Dec. 30 MAGICAL FOREST
The Enchanted Carousel and Forest Express Trains combined with live music, sweet treats, lavishly decorated trees, whimsical displays and visits with Santa Claus make this a holiday treat for people of all ages.

Dec. 1- Dec. 30 100 YEARS OF WATER
This event is aimed at showing the Las Vegas Valley community the history of valley water resources over the past century. Exhibit includes a multimedia station, auto and video device, and written educational material. The exhibit will be on view at various sites.

Dec. 1 - Dec. 30 VIVA THE CENTENNIAL II: CITY OF 100 MURALS
Exhibit includes images of artists' murals created to celebrate Las Vegas' centennial. Co-partnered by Las Vegas Arts Commission and Las Vegas-Clark County Library District. Free admission.

An exhibit of historic photo images from the past 100 years on display daily from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Dec. 1 - Jan. 3 GIFT OF LIGHTS

Dec. 1 - Indefinite CENTENNIAL QUILT
This queen-size tribute to the history of Las Vegas will have a permanent home from Dec. 1, at the Nevada State Museum and Historical Society, 700 Twin Lakes Drive.

Dec. 1 - Indefinite 24 HOUR SHOW: MAKING A LIVING IN LAS VEGAS
The 24-Hour Show is a comprehensive exhibit of Las Vegas casino "work culture" based on interviews with a diverse cadre of casino workers who have made Las Vegas home. Exhibit open daily from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Dec. 6 MAE WEST'S RED HAT WINTER BALL
This event is for Red Hat members (local and visiting) and features a 14-piece band, refreshments, giveaways, contests, and more. 8 p.m. - midnight.

Dec. 6 - 17 HOLIDAY FESTIVAL
The festival begins with a tree lighting ceremony, Dec. 6.

Dec. 10 THE 5TH ANNUAL LAKES FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS
Enjoy family entertainment, an arts and crafts show, car show, spectacular food, an electric light boat parade, and all kinds of exhibits. Event is free and open to the public from noon - 6 p.m.
Location: Exact site is the intersection of Lake East Drive and Lake Sahara Drive, next to the Lake Town Center commercial plaza. Parking available in the Citibank parking lot.

Dec. 10 SECOND SATURDAY AT THE POST MODERN
Docent tours: 11:15 am and 12, 12:45, 1:30 & 2:15 pm
The POST Modern, the former historic downtown post office, is open to the public for the last time. Tour the building and see Vegas V.I.P. (Vegas Viewed in Postcards), an exhibit of vintage postcards, historic photographs and artifacts. Free trolley service to and from the Cultural Corridor for other Second Saturday events. Free admission

Dec. 15 LAS VEGAS CENTENNIAL TIME CAPSULE DEDICATION
Mayor Oscar Goodman will open the dedication ceremony at 11 a.m., followed by the sealing of the time capsule and the unveiling of the artist rendering that will decorate the exterior. The public is invited to attend.
