Las Vegas Centennial Launches 5-15 Club for Residents Who Share Las Vegas' Birthday
The Las Vegas City Council today is expected to approve a resolution forming an exclusive 5-15 Club for Las Vegas Valley residents born on May 15, Las Vegas' birthday.
Las Vegas celebrates its 100th birthday on May 15, 2005, and members of the 5-15 Club will play a special role in the yearlong birthday bash. Local residents born on May 15 will be offered free membership into the club, which was formed by the Las Vegas Centennial Celebration Committee.
Members will receive a 5-15 birthday kit and membership perks throughout the year. Local residents should call (702) 229-2005 between now and May 14 to register and to pick up a membership package. Registered members will participate in a pre-birthday celebration with Goodman on May 14, 2004, where they will receive a birthday gift from the mayor.
``Local residents whose birthdays are on May 15 are in good company because they share their birthday with the greatest city in the world,'' Goodman said. ``Members of this club are in for an exciting year. So I encourage everyone to register and join the fun.''
The Las Vegas Centennial is a yearlong celebration that will pay tribute to the exciting people, places and events that helped shape Las Vegas history since 110 acres was purchased near the first railroad in a land auction nearly a century ago.
Members of the 5-15 Club will serve as ambassadors as the city commemorates its birthday with hundreds of events scheduled throughout 2005. In addition to special recognition during the yearlong celebration, members will be featured in the historical Helldorado Days Rodeo Parade, their names will be placed in the Las Vegas Time Capsule and they will help cut the World's Largest Birthday Cake on May 15, 2005, the city's official 100th birthday observance.
Members of the 5-15 Club must be Las Vegas Valley residents and must show a birth certificate, Nevada identification or military identification proving their May 15 birthday in order to register.
