Our Three Lucky Days
By Amy Smith, Phoenix
My husband and I had the good luck to tie the knot on June 9, 2005 on Fremont Street with 99 other couples. All of us were part of "Once Upon 100 Weddings." We had three days of just pure fun!
When we left Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, Southwest Airlines treated us to wedding cake, champagne, and balloons while local Channel 12 News filmed our departure for their 4 p.m. news story. As our 10 brides- and grooms-to-be boarded the plane, a young man at the ticket counter sang "Love Me Tender"-a message from the King himself.
All the people at Southwest went out of their way to make our departure a day we will never forget. When we got to Las Vegas we were escorted into a briefing room full of soda and pizza where we waited for the other flights to arrive. At last, we were taken to the beautiful Golden Nugget Hotel!
I was so taken away by all the time and effort that everyone put in to pull off this big wedding day. My husband and I feel so lucky to have been part of something so big and to have played a role in Sin City's centennial history. We saw our wedding on A&E and on Southwest Airline's reality show, "Airline." We've seen the movie, Wedding Crashers, about 10 times since our private showing at the Neonopolis.
Our wedding day was just breathtaking! I thought only movie stars had weddings like ours. I love Las Vegas, and I thank you so much for being such a big part of the first day of the rest of my life with my husband. If we hit the jackpot, we may even name him or her "Lucky" or "Jackpot."
