Col. Walter Givhan

Colonel Walter D. Givhan is Commander, 99th Air Base Wing at Nellis Air Force Base. He is the installation commander for Nellis Air Force Base and the 2.9 million-acre Nevada Test and Training Range, responsible for all installation support functions.

Colonel Givhan is a Top Honor Graduate of Officer Training School. A fluent speaker of French, he served as U.S. air liaison officer to the French ground commander during the Gulf War. He has earned numerous awards and medals including Legion of Merit, French Croix de Guerre with silver star, Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, and Kuwait Liberation Medal Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait Liberation Medal Government of Kuwait.

The colonel has had staff assignments as Chief of the Congressional Action Division for Air Force Legislative Liaison and as Deputy Military Assistant to the Secretary of the Air Force. He was also a military fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. He is a command pilot with more than 2,500 flying hours.
