Lawrence Weekly

Ward 5 Councilman Lawrence Weekly is a model for today's urban youth, overcoming many odds to become an anomaly of the social system and a hero to local residents. Born in Reno, Nevada, Weekly moved with his family to Las Vegas at the tender age of four. The youngest of four children, he was raised by a single mother who worked hard to provide for her family.

After graduating from Western High School in 1982, Weekly attended Clark County Community College, later transferring to Grambling State University in Louisiana where he earned a bachelor's degree in Communication in 1987. He returned to Las Vegas pursuing careers in radio broadcasting and education. As a life-long Las Vegan, Councilman Weekly is passionate about a number of social issues that affect local families, including neighborhood revitalization efforts, quality childcare for working class families, social programs for school-age children and seniors, and increasing the quality of life in urban Las Vegas. Lawrence is married with two children.
