Ms. Russell was recently re-elected chair for the Clark County Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission and became a member of Nevada Public Radio Community Advisory Board and the Las Vegas Arts Commission this year. She serves on the board of the Nevada Alliance for Arts Education, working to strengthen the arts in schools and communities, and she serves on the board of Women of Diversity Productions Inc., working to empower women. In 2003 Kim Russell was sponsored by US Senator Harry Reid and sent as a delegate to the Celebration of African-American Leadership Conference in Washington D.C. At the invitation of President and Mrs. George W. Bush, she was a delegate to the 2002 Celebration of African-American Music History Month at the White House.
Ms. Russell is an award-winning producer, writer and actress. In 1998 she was elevated to the Nevada Arts in Education Roster of Artists. Her original one-woman show on the life of a 19th century abolitionist and feminist, Sojourner Truth: I Sell the Shadow, has won numerous awards. In recognition for writing and producing positive messages and images of the African-American community, KLAS-TV, Channel 8 awarded her the Community Pride 2000 award.
Ms. Russell has written and staged several productions. Her current play, Seeing Blues and Hearing Art, a musical tracing the history of the Blues, is being performed three days a week at the House of Blues for Las Vegas/Clark County school-age children.
